whats good everyone this is your boy d nice saying hello. As u can see im now part of the yardbarker family and im here to give u whatever u need in world of sports. hahahahah just playin, like i know anything besides baseball but i will say i do love sports and i love to talk about them so whenever u want to hit me up i will get back u asap. durling the course of the year i will talk about things that are on my head and things that u want to talk about as well. . THE TRADE Its crazy how it can happen anytime anywhere . Man i get off a plane in mexico with my family and everyone is callin me like something bad happened but i didnt know until my agent called and told me. I thought he was playin but then i saw it on t.v and for a second i was like ''damn for real" then i was like "well lets do it baby boy '' . My family didnt know how i would take it so they didnt know how to act so it was kinda funny. It feels good that someone else wants u but at the same time i felt like i didnt want to leave. But i do understand that moves r made alot in the game and now im apart of one once again.

yeah well when first got to the bigs with the marlins i wanted to finish with them. but after two year with them i was on the trading block for my last 3 so i figure with right deal i could leave . miggy and i talked about it for a while but never really believe it would happen

    I think that's fluff made up by a NY reporter. I live in Detroit, and the Tigers do want to move Inge, but do not want to deal Dontrelle. Dontrelle, I am so excited that you are coming here. You have no idea, fanwise, what is in store for you. Detroit is the best sports city in America (and the Sporting News agrees). You will play in front of 40,000 baseball crazy blue-collar workhorses...but with that in mind, unlike NY, we love our players. By the way, when you move here (if only during the season), check out Royal Oak or Birmingham, both are hip towns and not too far from the stadium. Peace!

  Personally I do not think a stadium is going to help the situation. The owner is the problem and he is trying to do to the Marlins exactly what he did to the Expos. As soon as we get a BASEBALL owner in control of this team and not a painting dealer, we may get some interest back in this team.
  
  It's guys like you and Miggy getting traded that is causing Marlins fans to jump ship. How can we build a tradition down here when there are no players left from the 2003 or 1997 WS? This recycling of players is nauseating.
  
  It's pathetic. Boston has baseball tradition and so does New York. Miami just has a businessman trying to fill his pockets at the expense of big traditionalists like the Sox and Yanks.

  1. The location of the stadium, it's too far north for people in south dade where a lot of the suburbs are
  2. The weather, days are hot, nights are humid, and there is always a threat of rain
  3. Most diehard baseball fans in Miami are out of towners who like the teams up north.
  
  It may not seem that big of a deal to go to one game, but trying to draw big crowds 81 days a year is tough but still doable in my opinion.

  I'm a former Marlins season ticket holder and I never will be again. I've been to major league games in over 20 stadiums (and a bunch of minor league parks too).
  In addition to all the reasons people usually list (weather, distance, etc), I think the biggest thing is how the team (management -- not the players) treats the fans. The front office staff is horrible. They are rude to customers. They are unhelpful.
  I'd rather spend my money on the Extra Innings package and a great TV at home (and a road trip to another city for a few games each summer) instead of putting money in those owners pockets.

Trelle, first off let me say I've ben watching MLB for almost 50 years. Willie Mays was always my favorite player. Until you. You became my favorite 3 years ago. I love your ability, and the way you play 'da GAME. I'm one of the 357 Marlins fans. You'll be missed, and I wish you luck. Maybe you'll wind up with the Mets, which was my favorite team growing up.
Miami is a lousy sports town. It's got to be real hard to be a pro athlete down here. Why don't they go to the games? They don't go in lots of places unless you're a winner. I've seen Tiger Stadium, Shea Stadium, Yankee Stadium.....all nearly empty, just like the Marlins. Down here, if we keep the franchise, it's going to take another 10 years to begin to build up that father-son(daughter) thing. That and lousy ownership has hurt the Marlins. New owners, new stadium, 10 more years, and the attendance will be the same here as everywhere. You are a class act. Your mother should be very proud. Good luck with the game and with you new family.

The mets say there could have been a deal before the trade but there's no deal that's going to happen after it became official. Dtrain is a Tiger. I'm a happy Tigers fan too.

Congrats on the trade. You will love being a Tiger. I have been a Dtrain fan since I saw your Steven A Smith interview when he asked you about being underpaid compared to other pitchers. Your response was "I make xxx,xxx dollars a year to play baseball. Ask any one of the people here, xxx,xxx is a lot of mony to play baseball" I don't remember the dollar amount (and it's not that important). What I loved is the fact that you love what you do and are not all about the money like some other players. Good luck and God bless!
BTW, I doubt the Mets rumors are true. It would leave the Tigers without a starting catcher, plus why would the Tigers want to burn a bridge with the Marlins? That would be like selling your AAA team. It makes no sense.

Dontrelle I'm a huge fan of your but an even bigger Tigers fan. There is so much buzz in the city right now the second the story broke that you and Cabrera were coming to Detroit my phone started ringing off the hook. After playing in Florida for so many years you are going to be absolutely shocked at the amount of fan support you will get in Detroit. It is a really underrated sports city even though the pistons, red wings, wolverines, spartans, (Tons of Lions fans dying for a good season) are all really good sports franchises right now we need the Tigers to make it to the playoffs again this season, we just missed out last year, but 2006 was one of the best summers of my life because the tigers haven't been good since I was about 3 years old, and haven't won a world series since the year I was born. I love your unorthodox style and can't wait to see you in the rotation with verlander, bonderman, rogers, and robertson you will be a force to be reckoned with and if our offense can put up similar numbers to what they did last year you will have run support that can't be matched. I'm interested to know, what you think the lineup may be next season. Get back to me if you can and if not good luck next year Rep the D well and can't wait to see you and cabrera in action

Dontrelle! I've been a big marlins fan for several years now. you will be missed. I was extremely shocked when I heard the news. I didnt really care much about cabs because his trade has been talked about for a while now but the front office made it seem like you were staying. oh well. Good luck in detroit. hopefully you can get that Cy Young award that you deserved in '05.

Its really exciting to hear about you and miggy coming to Detroit. You are going to be a great guy to have on the team, not just because you are a great pitcher, but because youre such a fun guy and so friendly and outgoing with the fans.
I really hope you stay around here for a long time. You and Grandy especially are the type of players that the MLB seriously needs more of. We're lucky to have you both here in Detroit. I hope I get a chance to meet you sometime before a game or something.
And you'll definitely have to convince Jim to pinch hit you once and a while. Take care.

PS I love Hanley, Jeremy, Uggla and Jacobs. But I agree with the other poster that Loria has GOT TO GO. We need a baseball owner, not someone who already has experience in demising a team (Expos). I'm worried now more than ever. I fear Hanley will have to go in a year or two if this keeps up.

well thanks i try to do the best i can with fans. its very hard because sometimes i cant sign everyone or get to talk to everyone like i want to. but hopefully i can get a huge fan base with this so i can chat with u guys as much as i can

D-train... I have followed the Marlins since you guys upended the Yanks in the W.S. I feel for the entire Marlins community with the way they handle thier team and thier players. I, however, have always been a Detroit Sports fan! The buzz around this trade reminds me in alot of ways how the city felt when we aquired Sheed! I cannot wait for the season to start. D Trizzle, As a marlins season ticket holder I truly am sorry to see you go but more sorry that i wont be running into you at sonnys car wash in aventura. You are a great player and a down to earth person. every time i saw you, you were so chill and even though we only traded head nods that was good enough for me. Hey D-Train, welcome. Looks like this Mets rumor could be legit...how do you feel about the Marlins management? Some say that they should be the model for a small market team, others say it is just terrible. I mean, winning 2 championships in 10 years while not having to spend much money is nice but for the players and fans it's got to be tough...always seeing teammates/favorite players moving on. For the Ownership though it seems great.

Now that Detroit has Dontrelle Willis in its clutches, the team is apparently ready to send him elsewhere in order to lower payroll and fill up the now-depleted farm system a little bit. The primary target is believed to be the Mets, who couldn't get Willis from Florida for years because the Marlins wouldn't trade to a division rival. Now is their chance. And it's thought that Detroit will also want to throw in the pricey Ivan Rodriguez as long as it can get new Met Brian Schneider back as part of the package. Both Willis and third baseman Miguel Cabrera are arbitration eligible and the Tigers took them both on, apparently BSPAN style=font-WEIGHT: bold"> color=#0000ccalready knowing it couldn t afford both./SPAN/B (Journal News, New York Daily News)

yeah I know some fans dont understand that you dont always have the time etc. , but I have no doubt youll win over a large fan base around Detroit. Its easy to win over fans in the area just by giving your all on the field, working hard and enjoying yourself. And I know nobody can question your love for the game.

I dont believe any of those Mets rumors. Every comment Ive seen here in Detroit is about how excited the team, management, and the fans are to have Miggy and D-train around. I have a feeling that is just hopeful thinking from New Yorkers.

Hey Dontrelle, I'm sure I can speak on behalf of EVERY SINGLE Marlins fan (even the one's that don't come out to the games) and say that we are sad to see you leave. You seemed like one of the most down to earth and likable guys in all of sports and I'm happy to see that you'll have the opportunity to flourish in Detroit (even though I expected a bounce-back season for you this year, regardless).
Anyway, we hope to see you pull a Conine and come back some time later, but hopefully not too much later.

Dontrelle, welcome to Detroit, or should I say welcome to the Big Leagues, we have amazing facilities, amazing fans, a great coach and a hell of an owner who obviously does what it takes to bring a winner to Detroit. I have a pit in my stomach at the thought of you going to NY, although everyone assures me its impossible to give you up leaving us with literally no 5th starter after giving up what we did to get you guys in the first place, there isnt anyone on the Mets that would be worth trading you for!! I think you and he represent a new generation of "complete ballplayers" who can add something to the offense as well as pitch. It's interesting, and who knows? You guys may be the start of a trend that will have implications for the DH rule in another ten years. I might also want to touch on some other things like attendance--you will have a different experience in Detroit, for sure--and baseball being taken out of the Olympics; since you played in the WBC you probably have opinions on that.

Ha, okay, so you won't be batting many games. Could be the most important games you play though! And if you're coming up to Detroit, you must catch a game at Ford Field and one at The Palace. You haven't seen a crazy fan or felt a pumped up atmosphere till you've been to one! Not to mention Comerica!

So, D...you ready for that snow, that cold breeze and that close to 0 weather?.....If you come from Oakland, I do not think you experienced the same stuff as a Canadian cold front coming down from the border. You could probably walk right outside of the stadium and just toss your arm in the snow instead strapping that big old bag on...Just bustin' your chops man. I personally would love to see you average 15 wins a season and stay in Detroit for the rest of your career. They have a huge history and I never want to hear the word "journeyman" or "season rental" associated with your name. I've read you're a big Rasheed fan and I think(hope) you will become the Tigers 'Sheed, a super competitive guy, an immediate fan favorite who will come in and put us over the top and grab us a championship. Hopefully the clinching game of the NBA Finals will be at the Palace on a Tigers off day so you and Miggy can go. In your honest opinion; what do you think of the guys who were dealt for you, have you heard of any of them or maybe seen them play or checked out there stats?...plus, is it an extra added bonus to know that it took THAT many prospects to pry you and Miggy away? (I know no one wants to be traded...but what extra little factors have you thought about involving the trade? positive or negative)

Let me tell you...What's so unique about a person/player like you is that even though you left my team, the Marlins, everyone I know here in Miami, myself included, is so freakin' happy you landed a fat deal for a great team. Your gonna be on a contender this year for sure. And you should be able to carve the AL. I see at least a 6-0 start for you.
But that's not important.
Just wanted to let you know me and my buddies miss you in a Marlins' jersey, but are very happy a team saw just how valuable you are.

Dontrelle---What I'm going to post, I mean in the best possible way. Ignore everything you've been told lately about pitching and JUST THROW THE DAMNED BALL!! Tell yourself that everytime before you throw a pitch. Just cut loose and throw it. You have NOT lost the ability to pitch. You're just thinking too much. So, just do it!!!!
